Like the canoe turned rivers into passages, the Snowshoe forged pathways and mobility during long, snowy winters. Join us for an educational snowshoe experience with our knowledgeable guides. Your students will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the tranquility of a winter landscape in our Rocky Mountains. Our guides will help form the bridge to understanding the natural environment for your students, allowing them to witness and understand the marvels of one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. We provide the opportunity to experience a traditional form of mountain travel, all while learning  about the natural and human history of our Rocky Mountains.

Avalanche Awareness

 

The Rocky Mountains are a world-class destination for winter recreation. With that being said, there are numerous safety hazards that need to be understood and considered before any backcountry winter travel. Our Avalanche Awareness program educates students in Snow Science in order to help them understand the complexities and dangers of avalanches.We offer a  full auditory, visual, and kinesthetic experience for your students to maximize understanding of the subject at hand. In addition to studying Snow and the cause for Avalanches, students will have the opportunity to learn Avalanche Search and Rescue techniques in a simulated environment. *Please note: this program is not conducted in Avalanche Terrain, nor is it designed to prepare students for heading out into avalanche terrain on their own. This program is designed as an introduction into the plethora of intricacies of backcountry winter travel in a Mountainous environment. We encourage and recommend anyone who would like to become a recreational user of mountain snow terrain to take accredited courses such as the Avalanche Skills Training courses, administered by the Canadian Avalanche Association.

Cross Country Skiing

Get a taste of a Scandinavian tradition and a Canadian favourite in our cross-country skiing programs. Your students will feel the crisp mountain air wisp through their hair as we develop XC skills and gain a newfound appreciation for winter backcountry travel. We offer full day trips in Kananaskis, as well as half-day inner city programs to accommodate your needs. The forest will come to life as we ski along the trail, witness a variety of animal tracks and better understand winter ecology in the Rocky Mountains. We aim to engage the mind and imagination of the students through highlighting the flora and fauna around us. Our guides hold a CANSI instructor’s certification and possess a wealth of experience managing groups in colder environments to ensure your students are safe, and having fun.


Quality ski equipment can be rented by request.

Cross Country Skiing Estimator

Cross Country Overnight

Take your student’s cross-country skills to the next level with an overnight adventure! We offer single or multi-night cross country skiing programs based out of Mosquito Creek, Lake Louise or Kananaskis hostel. These locations boast no shortage of, and are literally surrounded by scenery that can only be described as world class. Students will receive a lesson based on their needs on day 1, and enjoy the programs in the Banff Kananaskis area the rest of the time. After a day out on the trails, we relax inside the hostel with a hot chocolate, and play games by the warmth of the fire. Fill out an Adventure Request Form today!

Winter Camping

The old adage holds true - some dance in the winter, and others just get cold. Join us as we help you enjoy a full winter camping experience. On this action-packed adventure, your students will gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of winter camping, and gain a deeper appreciation for the Northern forest of our Canadian Rockies. We operate themed experiences that focus on winter shelter building and survival skills, combined with a tonne of fun simultaneously. In-City Cross Country Skiing

In-City Cross Country Skiing: Calgary has a tradition in cross-country skiing that dates back to well before the world descended on the city in ’88 for the Winter Olympics. Join COA for a half-day learn-to- ski. We can come to your school-yard, or you can come to us at Confederation Golf Course in the city’s NW. Rentals are available through the UofC at a reduced rate, and we’d be happy to pick them up and bring them to you!
